Air Liaison Officer

the senior Air Force officer at each tactical air control party (TACP). He advises the Army Commander and staff on the capabilities, limitations, and employment of tactical air operations. He operates the Air Force request net, coordinates close air support (CAS) missions with the FSE, and assists in planning the simultaneous employment of air and surface fires. He supervises forward air controllers (FAC’s) and assists the fire support team (FIST) in directing air strikes in the absence of a FAC.
