Area Reconnaissance

1. A form of reconnaissance operations that is a directed effort to obtain detailed information concerning the terrain or enemy activity within a prescribed area, such as a town, ridgeline, woods, or other features critical to operations. An area reconnaissance could be made of a single point, such as a bridge or installation. (PAM 3-03, PAM 8-03) 2.
