Assault

1. In amphibious operations, the period of time from the crossing of the lines of departure (LD) by the first sheduled wave, to the siezure of the initial objectives. Also means to make a short, violent, but so well organized attack against an objective such as a gun emplacement or a machine gun nest. (AFPM 3-8-1) 2. a. The culmination of an attack which closes the unit with the enemy. b. In an amphibious operation, the period of time from the crossing of the Line of Departure(LD) by the first scheduled wave to the seizure of the initial objectives. c. A phase of an airborne or air assault operation beginning with the delivery of the assault force into the objective area and extending through the attack on the objectives and the consolidation of the initial airhead. d In river crossing the period of the time from the launching of the first crossing effort until the initial brigehead has been secured and passed the responsibility to the crossing area commander. e. to make a short violent or a fortified area.
