Covering Force

1. A combined armed force with a mission to cover. (PAM 3-071:S-2008, PAM 3-04) 2. a. A force operating apart from the main force for the purpose of intercepting, engaging, delaying, disorganizing and deceiving the enemy before he can attack the force covered. b. Any body or detachment of troops which provides security for a larger force by observation, reconnaissance, attack, or defense, or by any combination of these methods. (PAM 8-03) 3. A combined arms force with a mission to cover. Operates apart from the main body to develop the situation early and deceives, disorganize and destroys enemy forces. A tactically self-contained force (That is, it is organized with sufficient combat support and combat service support assets to operate independently of the main body). (PAM 3-041)
