Decisive Terrain

1. Key terrain is decisive terrain if it has an extraordinary impact on the mission. (PAM 3-041) 2. Decisive terrain is rare and will not be present in every situation. To designate terrain as decisive, is to recognize that the successful accomplishment of the mission, whether offensive or defensive, depends on seizing or retaining it. The commander designates decisive terrain to communicate its importance in his concept of operations, first to his staff and, later, to subordinate commanders. (PAM 3-071)
