Final Protective Fire

1. A predetermined line along which in order to stop enemy assaults, interlocking fire is placed from all available flat trajectory weapons, fixed as to direction and elevation and capable of delivery under any condition of visibility. (AFPM 3-8-1, PAM 3-071) 2. An immediately available pre-planned barrier of direct and indirect fire designed to provide close protection to friendly positions and installations by impending enemy movement into defensive areas. (PAM 3-041)
