Fire Support

1. a.Air, naval or artillery fires delivered to support maneuvering/combat units. b. Assistance to those elements of the ground forces which are engaged in combat with the enemy, rendered by delivery of artillery fire, naval gun fire and air craft strating or bombardment, to favorably influence the outcome of battle. (AFPM 3-8-1) 2. Assistance to those elements of the ground forces which close with the enemy such as infantry and armor units, rendered by delivering artillery and mortar fire, naval gunfire, and close air support (CAS). Fire support may also be provided by tanks, air defense artillery and army aviation (PAM 3-041, PAM 3-071)
