Line of Departure

1. A line designated to coordinate the departure of attacking elements. Also known as the jump-off line. (AFPM 3-8-1) 2. A line designated to coordinate the commitment of attacking units or attacking elements at a specified time. A start line. (PAM 3-04, PAM 3-071) 3. In land warfare, a line designated to coordinate the departure of attack elements. (PAM 8-03) A general trace delineating the location where two opposing forces are engaged. line of departure is line of contact (LD/LC).
