1. a. The principal part of a tactical command or formation. It does not include detached elements of the command such as advance guards, flank guards, covering forces, etc. b. in a motor column, all vehicles exclusive of the column head, tail, and control vehicles which consist primarily of the vehicles carrying the bulk of the cargo or troops within the column.
