Precision-guided munitions

Refers to weapons used in precision bombing missions. Precision guided munitions are usually specially designed weapons, or normal bombs fitted with kits to allow them to be guided to their target. They are also self-guiding weapons intended to maximize damage to the target while minimizing "collateral damage". These munitions may be air delivered or launched by cannon artillery. The most common artillery delivered PGMs are the 155mm howitzer-launched Copperhead or Crusader used by the US Army and Krasnopol used by the Russian Army. (PAM 3-041)
