1. a. Measures taken by a military unit, an activity, or an installation to protect itself against all acts designed to, or that may, impair its effectiveness. A condition t'lat results from the establishment and maintenance of protective measures that ensures a state of inviolability from hostile acts or influences. With respect to classified matter, it is the condition that prevents unauthorized persons from having access to official information that is safeguarded in the interests of national security. (AFPM 3-8-1, PAM 3-071(S-2008)) b. All measures taken by a unit to protect itself from observation, harassment or surprise attack by the enemy. 2. Measures taken by a command to protect itself from espionage, observation, sabotage, annoyance, or surprise; a condition which results from the establishment and maintenance of protective measures which ensure a state of inviolability from hostile acts or influences.
