Security Operations

Those operations designed to obtain information about the enemy and provide reaction time, maneuver space, and protection to the main body. Security operations are characterized by aggressive reconnaissance to reduce terrain and enemy unknowns, gaining and maintaining contact with the enemy to ensure continuous information, and providing early and accurate reporting of information to the protected force. Security operations include screening operations, guard operations, covering force operations, and area security operations. Area security operations normally are associated with rear battle operations. The other types of security operations may be oriented in any direction from a stationary or moving force.
