1. A key point in a defensive position, usually strongly fortified and heavily armed with automatic weapons, around which other positions are grouped for its protection. (AFPM 3-8-1,PAM 3-071(S-2008)) 2. A position requiring intense engineer effort for obstacles and survivability positions and positioned to control or block an avenue of approach. (PAM 8-03)
